Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has expressed strong approval for the Union Budget 2024, particularly praising the financial support allocated for flood relief efforts in Assam.
Sarma lauded the budget’s provisions as a significant boost to the state’s recovery from recurring floods.
In his remarks, Sarma highlighted the special assistance earmarked for Assam, describing it as a vital aid in addressing the flood challenges that have plagued the state.
“We are extremely grateful for the special assistance Assam will receive under this budget to help meet the challenges posed by floods,” he said.
Sarma also noted the budget’s focus on land registration reforms, which he believes will complement Assam’s Mission Basundhara 3.0 initiative.
He praised Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman for presenting a budget that, in his view, not only supports Assam but also aims to maintain India’s growth trajectory and elevate the economy to a global standing.
The Chief Minister commended several budgetary measures, including the emphasis on employment generation and support for small businesses.
He pointed to schemes such as the Prime Minister’s package for employment and skilling, which includes one crore paid internship opportunities and employment-linked incentives, as transformative for job creation.
Sarma highlighted the enhanced allocations under the PM Awas Yojana and the PM Janjatiya Unnat Gram Abhiyan, noting that these initiatives will bring positive changes to Assam’s tribal areas. “These initiatives will have a net positive impact on Assam,” he affirmed.
The budget’s infrastructure investment, with an allocation of ₹1.5 lakh crore to states, was also welcomed by Sarma. He praised the budget’s focus on agricultural productivity, green energy, and rural development as essential for Assam’s growth.
Sarma applauded the budget’s progressive measures, including the review of the IT Act, withdrawal of angel tax, reduction of fiscal deficit, and sustained capital expenditure.
