Domestic benchmark indices, the Sensex and Nifty 50, ended with marginal changes amid mixed global signals as investors awaited the upcoming Federal Reserve meeting. This follows Wall Street's strongest week since November, with a slight uptick in US equities on Friday.

The 30-share BSE Sensex closed 12.16 points lower, or 0.02%, at 80,424.68, while the Nifty 50 gained 31.50 points, or 0.13%, to end at 24,572.65. Among broader indices, the Nifty Midcap 100 rose by 0.29%, and the Nifty SmallCap 100 saw a 1.74% increase, outperforming the benchmark indices.

Global stock markets exhibited volatility on Monday as investors focused on the upcoming Federal Reserve address in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. Significant policy announcements have historically been made at this venue.

In Asia, Japan's benchmark index fell by 1.8% to 37,388.62. Core machinery orders, an indicator of future capital investment, dropped 1.7% year-on-year in June. Conversely, Bangkok's stock exchange index climbed 1.3% following a 2.3% GDP growth in the second quarter, driven largely by tourism.
