Benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty closed higher on Tuesday, marking their second consecutive day of gains. A rebound in US markets and fresh foreign fund inflows provided support.
The 30-share BSE Sensex rose 361.75 points, or 0.44%, to end at 81,921.29, led by gains in IT, telecom, and select banking stocks. Earlier in the session, the index jumped 637.01 points, or 0.78%, to hit an intraday high of 82,196.55.
The NSE Nifty climbed 104.70 points, or 0.42%, to settle at 25,041.10.
Among the top performers on the Sensex were NTPC, HCL Technologies, Bharti Airtel, Tech Mahindra, Power Grid, Axis Bank, Tata Consultancy Services, and Adani Ports.
On the other hand, Bajaj Finserv, Bajaj Finance, Hindustan Unilever, Mahindra & Mahindra, Tata Motors, and State Bank of India were the biggest laggards.
In Asian markets, Shanghai and Hong Kong ended higher, while Seoul and Tokyo closed lower. European markets traded mixed, and the US markets saw a significant rebound on Monday.
Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) purchased equities worth ₹1,176.55 crore on Monday, according to exchange data.
Domestic Institutional Investors (DIIs) also bought equities worth ₹1,757.02 crore.
Global oil benchmark Brent crude dropped 1.39% to $70.84 per barrel.
