Filmmaker Reema Kagt's upcoming film, "Superboys of Malegaon," has been chosen to screen at the 68th BFI London Film Festival.
The movie, set in Malegaon, a small town in Maharashtra, and inspired by true events, will be presented as part of the 'Create' section of the film festival, which will take place from October 9 to 20.
As per a press statement, the film is scheduled to be shown at the renowned Vue West End on October 10 and at the historic Curzon Soho cinema on October 12.
"Superboys of Malegaon," a production of Excel Entertainment and Tiger Baby, was written by Varun Grover and features Adarsh Gourav, Vineet Kumar Singh, and Shashank Arora in leading roles.
The film will have its global debut at the 49th Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) on September 13.
Described as a moving yet inspiring portrayal of the intertwining worlds of filmmaking and friendship, the movie explores the outcomes when these two realms collide.
"'Superboys of Malegaon' is based on the life of Nasir Shaikh, an amateur filmmaker from the town of Malegaon, where the residents look to Bollywood cinema for a much-needed escape from daily drudgery.
"Driven by a passion to create a film for the people of Malegaon, by the people of Malegaon, Nasir rallies his ragtag group of friends to turn his own dream into reality, infusing the town with newfound energy and hope," read the official synopsis.
"Superboys of Malegaon" is an original movie from Prime Video with Ritesh Sidhwani, Zoya Akhtar, Kagti, and Farhan Akhtar as executive producers.
