Stigma stops men from discussing periods

According to a survey, over half of educated urban men have never purchased a menstrual hygiene product for their partner, and three in four women do not feel comfortable discussing periods with their husbands.

According to a survey, over half of educated urban men have never purchased a menstrual hygiene product for their partner, and three in four women do not feel comfortable discussing periods with their husbands. 

 

Everteen, an Indian feminine hygiene brand, conducted the survey, which received more than 7,800 responses from individuals aged 18-35, including almost 1,000 men with a graduation or higher degree. 

 

As the world commemorates the global Menstrual Hygiene Day movement, Everteen revealed the results of its ninth annual menstrual hygiene survey, indicating that 88.3 per cent of men do not take on additional household tasks to help ease their partner's burden during periods.

 

It also found that 69 .8 per cent of men feel social stigmas make it difficult to discuss periods with their female partner, while 65.3 per cent agree that there should be more emphasis on educating men on menstruation.

 

According to a survey, three out of four women don't feel comfortable talking about menstruation with their husbands. 

 

The survey also found that including men in discussions about menstruation led to positive changes, with 41.3% of men expressing a willingness to educate themselves about periods after taking the survey and 27.7% of men saying they would listen to their partner's needs and provide support during periods.
