Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced his transition to Zoho on Wednesday, an Indian-developed software suite, revealing his new email ID as part of the government's 'swadeshi' initiative amid pressures from US tariffs.
The announcement, made via a post on X, drew attention not only for the switch to a homegrown platform but also for Shah’s sign-off, which echoed the style of US President Donald Trump.
In his post, Shah wrote, “Hello everyone, I have switched to Zoho Mail. Kindly note the change in my email address. My new email address is amitshah.bjp@ http://zohomail.in. For future correspondence via mail, kindly use this address.” He concluded with, “Thank you for your kind attention to this matter,” a phrase reminiscent of Trump’s signature style on his Truth Social platform, which has become a viral catchphrase and a subject of online memes. Social media users noted the similarity, interpreting it as a possible playful jab at Trump.
Zoho Mail, positioned as India’s alternative to Gmail and Microsoft Outlook, has gained traction as a homegrown rival. Zoho co-founder Sridhar Vembu expressed gratitude for Shah’s adoption of the platform, tweeting, “I dedicate this moment to our hard-working engineers who have toiled hard in Zoho for over 20 years. They all stayed in India and worked all these years because they believed. Their faith is vindicated.”

Shah’s move aligns with a broader trend among government officials embracing Zoho’s tools. Last month, IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced his shift to Zoho’s office suite, stating, “I am moving to Zoho – our own Swadeshi platform for documents, spreadsheets and presentations.”
This adoption reflects Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s push for indigenous products and services under the 'atmanirbhar' (self-reliant) initiative, spurred by trade pressures and a 50pc US tariff on India, prompting efforts to reduce reliance on foreign technology platforms.
Zoho Mail and its office tools are being integrated across various government departments. The Education Ministry has directed officials to use Zoho platforms for official work, replacing Microsoft Office and Google Workspace, further underscoring the government’s commitment to promoting homegrown technology solutions.
