Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has ordered the removal of Rajesh Shah, the father of the accused in the Worli hit-and-run case, from his position as Deputy Leader of Shiv Sena. This decision followed the arrest of Mihir Shah, Rajesh Shah's son, who is the main accused in the incident.

Mihir Shah's arrest by Mumbai Police has triggered demands for strict action from various political parties. The opposition has been vocal about ensuring that Mihir Shah does not receive any leniency due to his father’s political connections.

NCP Sharad Pawar spokesperson Clyde Crasto emphasised the need for strict action, highlighting the gravity of the crime. He urged that all applicable laws should be enforced without any leniency.

Similarly, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader and MP Sanjay Raut expressed concerns about potential efforts to protect Mihir Shah. He drew parallels to a previous hit-and-run case in Pune, suggesting that political connections had previously led to leniency.

Raut urged a thorough investigation into Rajesh Shah’s background, including his potential connections to the underworld and his financial dealings. He emphasised the importance of transparency and accountability in the case.

The incident in question involved the death of 45-year-old Kaveri Nakhwa, who was struck and killed in the hit-and-run. The police have been actively investigating the case, and Mihir Shah was finally apprehended after being on the run since July 7. Fourteen teams were involved in the manhunt, which led to his arrest in Virar.

Meanwhile, the Mumbai court has extended the police custody of Rajesh Shah’s driver, Rajrishi Singh Bidawat, until July 11. Bidawat was reportedly present with Mihir Shah during the incident, which not only resulted in the death of Kaveri Nakhwa but also injured her husband.

The opposition has been vocal about ensuring justice in this case. They have stressed that Mihir Shah should not be allowed to evade punishment due to his father's political ties. The emphasis on strict action and thorough investigation underscores the broader concern about political influence and its impact on the justice system.

Chief Minister Eknath Shinde’s decision to remove Rajesh Shah from his post is seen as a step towards ensuring that justice is served without any bias or undue influence. This move aims to demonstrate the government's commitment to upholding the law and ensuring accountability, regardless of political affiliations.

The case continues to unfold, with further investigations and legal proceedings expected in the coming days. The focus remains on ensuring that justice is delivered for the victim and her family, and that those responsible are held accountable for their actions.
