Amity's Defence Dialogue highlights tech-driven warfare

Amity's Defence Dialogue highlights tech-driven warfare

The occasion marked a notable achievement with the formalisation of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Bharat Forge Ltd. and Amity University.


Amity University Uttar Pradesh, in partnership with Bharat Forge Ltd., Pune, hosted the “Bhartiya Raksha Vimarsha” (Indian Defence Dialogue), which was centred on the theme “Defence Technology & Integrated Joint Warfighting Perspective.” 

 

The occasion marked a notable achievement with the formalisation of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Bharat Forge Ltd. and Amity University, which aims to strengthen collaboration between industry and academia in the defence sector. 

 

This collaboration is set to propel research and innovation, nurturing self-reliance in defence technology. Many renowned individuals attended the event, including Shri Baba Kalyani, a recipient of the Padma Bhushan award and Chairman and Managing Director of Bharat Forge Ltd.

 

Kalyani shared his rich experiences and insights, underscoring Amity University’s contribution to India's journey to becoming a developed nation by 2047. He stressed the significance of defence strategies driven by technology and the urgent need for India to build its products to attain self-sufficiency.

 

He highlighted the abundant opportunities accessible to India's youthful population, especially in the field of AI and Quantum Computing. He emphasised that the defence sector should be guided by state-of-the-art technology rather than solely by policies and procedures.

 

Pointing out the demographic advantage, he noted that India's young population uniquely situates the country to harness technological progress and take a leading global role in the defence sector.

 

Dr BK Das, Scientist and Director General (ECS) at DRDO, presented an uplifting speech commemorating India's swift progress in various domains. He stressed the importance of every Indian taking pride in the nation's accomplishments in spirituality, economy, research, science, and innovation.

 

Dr Das provided further details on the acronym INDIA, highlighting Industries, National Forces, DRDO, Incubator Centres, and Academics as the fundamental components of national development.

 

India’s growing defence innovation 

 

Dr Das emphasised the significance of exports for the growth of the economy, acknowledging India's significant accomplishments in this field. He highlighted that India is ready to lead in the manufacturing industry, propelled by the collaborative efforts of various national stakeholders.

 

Dr Das' communication stressed the strategic importance of ongoing cooperation between the industry and academia to promote innovation and technological progress.

 

Dr. Atul Chauhan, the Chancellor of Amity University, expressed deep appreciation to Baba Kalyani for sharing his motivating journey with the students. He acknowledged the strategic significance of the defence industry sector and Amity University's pioneering role in providing specialised programs such as M. Tech in Defence Technology.

 

Dr Chauhan emphasised that the future belongs to the current generation of young leaders, who are crucial to making India the most developed nation globally.  

 

Transforming education 

 

During the MoU signing ceremony, Prof (Dr) Balvinder Shukla, the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor of Amity University, underlined the importance of collaboration between the academic and industry sectors. 

 

She stressed the significance of aligning the university's curriculum with the industry's needs. Dr Shukla expressed that the partnership aimed to equip students with the necessary skills in Defence Technology and committed to realising India's vision of development by 2047.

 

Dr W Selvamurthy, the President of Amity Science Technology and Innovation Foundation, elaborated on Amity's key areas of focus for research and innovation. He commended Bharat Forge for revolutionising the defence research ecosystem and encouraged students to play a pivotal role in the defence sector. 

 

Dr Selvamurthy's address emphasised the critical role of innovation and research in propelling technological advancements in defence.

 

At the Bhartiya Raksha Vimarsha event, Lt Gen (Dr) SK Gadeock, AVSM (Retd), Director General of Amity Institute of Defence and Strategic Studies, emphasised the significance of such gatherings in deepening students' comprehension of defence and national security issues. He urged the students to dedicate themselves to the country's progress. 

 

The event included insightful sessions on subjects like "The Transforming Landscape of Warfare: Gaining Insight into the Dynamic Changes" and "The Technological Revolution: Analyzing the Effects on Military Operations." 

 

Distinguished defence experts, including Air Marshal Anil Chopra, Maj Gen BK Sharma, AVSM, SM & Bar, Lt Gen Sunil Srivastava, AVSM, VSM (Retd), and Dr Swasti Rao, delivered valuable insights on pertinent contextual matters. The event attracted a large audience comprising faculty, students, PhD scholars from Amity Universities, Tri-Services Institutions, and dignitaries from the NCR.
