Jammu and Kashmir Police have denied reports of a terror attack on a security post in Udhampur district on Wednesday evening.

According to the police, a sentry fired warning shots after noticing suspicious movement, but there was no attack.

The incident happened around 8 PM in the Sang area of Basantgarh. “The sentry fired a few rounds into the air as a precaution. A search of the area found nothing unusual,” they said.

Despite social media claims of an attack, the police confirmed there was no confrontation with terrorists. They urged the public not to spread unverified information.

In a brief statement, the police urged the public not to fall for unverified reports about such sensitive issues. The police said the firing was a “precautionary measure” and not an indication of an attack.

The region is currently under increased security after a deadly ambush on an army patrol in Kathua district on Monday. This ambush resulted in the deaths of five soldiers and injuries to five others.

Additional forces have been sent to Basantgarh to conduct a thorough search operation. The goal is to secure the area and prevent any potential threats from terrorists who may be using the dense forest for cover.

Earlier reports suggested there was a confrontation between militants and security personnel at the police post in Basantgarh.

These reports also claimed that the militants escaped under the cover of darkness and dense forest, prompting the search operation.
