Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu unveiled India’s first indigenous Monkeypox RT-PCR kit on Thursday.
Developed by Transasia Diagnostics at the Andhra Pradesh Medtech Zone in Visakhapatnam, the kit has been validated by the Indian Council for Medical Research (ICMR) and the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO).
Naidu highlighted the kit’s lyophilized components, which make it suitable for remote shipping and use.
He emphasised the kit's role in enhancing epidemic preparedness with precise and accessible diagnostics.
The Chief Minister praised the kit as a testament to the 'Make in AP' initiative and India’s growing leadership in healthcare innovation.
Mpox also known as monkeypox is a viral infection that affects both humans and animals.
It is characterised by a rash that progresses from blisters to crusts, along with fever and swollen lymph nodes.
While the illness is generally mild and most people recover within a few weeks without specific treatment, the time from exposure to the onset of symptoms can range from three to seventeen days.
Symptoms typically persist for two to four weeks. Severe cases can occur, particularly in children, pregnant women, or individuals with weakened immune systems.
