Meet Grenadier Yogendra Singh Yadav, a true hero of the Indian Army. On the 4th of July, 1999, during the Kargil War, he displayed unparalleled bravery that led to the capture of Tiger Hill, one of the most critical battles of Operation Vijay.

The daunting task at Tiger Hill

Yogendra Singh Yadav was part of the Ghatak Platoon of the 18 Grenadiers, tasked with capturing Tiger Hill at an altitude of 16,500 feet. Under sub-zero temperatures and freezing conditions, the team approached the objective from the cliff side, a treacherous and daunting task. Tiger Hill -- was a strategically important peak held by enemy forces, making its capture crucial for the success of the operation.

Facing the Enemy Head-On

Despite suffering several casualties, including the loss of his team commander and two soldiers, Yadav pressed on. Even with grievous injuries and profuse bleeding, he single-handedly crawled towards the enemy position, neutralising four enemy soldiers with grenades.

A Hero Recognised

For his fearless action and unparalleled gallantry, Grenadier Yogendra Singh Yadav was awarded the Param Vir Chakra, India's highest military decoration. He is one of the few living recipients of this prestigious honor.
