In his first public statement on the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said on Thursday that India would give a fitting and precise response to every act of terrorism under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership.
Sending out a stern warning to terrorists while speaking at an event marking the unveiling of a statue of Bodo community patriarch Upendra Nath Brahma in Assam, Shah said, “We will hunt down each and every terrorist involved in the Pahalgam attack. All of them will be made answerable for this heinous act. If they assume this cowardly attack to be their victory, they must remember that this is Narendra Modi’s India. Do not think that you have won by killing 26 people. This fight is far from over. Chun chunke badla lenge (We will extract revenge and spare none).”
The Union Home Minister, who also announced a road in the name of the Bodo patriarch, said the Modi government had been pursuing a zero-tolerance policy against terrorists. "If someone thinks they can get away with such a cowardly attack, they are mistaken. Our fight against terrorism will continue till we wipe out this menace from every inch of the country, and we will accomplish it.”
Shah emphasised that the government’s campaign against terrorism would persist until the threat is entirely eradicated. “Do not think that you have won by killing 26 people. Every one of you will be made answerable,” he added, directing his words toward the attackers. The event, which took place in Assam, was attended by prominent figures including Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, and Chief Executive Member of the Bodoland Territorial Council, Promod Boro.
Stressing on international support for India’s fight against terrorism, Shah said, “Not just 140 crore Indians, but the entire world stands with India in this fight.”
The event was attended by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and Bodoland Territorial Council Chief Executive Member Promod Boro, among others.
Twenty-six people, mostly tourists, were killed and several injured when terrorists opened fire at a meadow near the tourist town of Pahalgam in south Kashmir's Anantnag district on April 22.
