The government has implemented a minimum export price (MEP) of USD 2,000 per tonne on natural honey until December of this year, according to a notification issued on Thursday by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade.
Effective immediately, exports below this MEP value will not be permitted. The notification specifies that while export of natural honey remains unrestricted, the MEP regulation will be enforced until December 31, 2024, or until further orders are issued, whichever comes first.
During the period from April to January of the current fiscal year, natural honey exports amounted to USD 153.21 million, down from USD 203 million recorded in the fiscal year 2022-23. The primary destinations for natural honey exports include the United States and the United Arab Emirates.
