The East Coast Railway (ECoR) has rolled out an initiative to provide economy meals at nine strategically important stations across its jurisdiction.
This move comes as part of Indian Railways' ongoing efforts to enhance passenger experience, while catering to the needs of budget-conscious travelers, particularly during the summer season when travel volumes typically surge.
The economy meals, priced at a wallet-friendly Rs. 20, aim to offer passengers a hygienic and affordable dining option while on the move.
Additionally, snack meals are available for those seeking lighter refreshments, priced at Rs. 50.
These meals will be conveniently accessible at counters situated near general second-class coaches on platforms, ensuring easy procurement for travelers.
This initiative, a joint effort by Indian Railways and the Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC), addresses the challenges faced by passengers traveling in unreserved compartments, who often lack access to convenient and budget-friendly meal options.
Having been successfully piloted at approximately 51 stations last year, the program has now been significantly expanded, with counters operational at over 100 stations and nearly 150 counters in total.
In the East Coast Railway's jurisdiction, economy meals are available at key stations including Khurda Road, Sambalpur, Titilagarh, Balangir, Kantabanji, Palasa, Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram, and Srikakulam.
