Reasi DM orders weapons to be deposited before J&K polls

The District Magistrate of Reasi has directed all licenced weapon holders to deposit their weapons in police stations as a precautionary measure before the Assembly elections.

In a communication by the Office of the District Magistrate on August 20, it was stated, "Given the prevailing law and order situation in District Reasi and to ensure a peaceful, free, and fair environment for the upcoming Legislative Assembly Elections 2024, it has been decided by the District Magistrate & Senior Superintendent of Police, Reasi, in a meeting held on August 20, 2024, that all valid licenced weapon holders shall deposit their weapons in the nearest police station."


The District Magistrate of Reasi has directed all licenced weapon holders to deposit their weapons in police stations as a precautionary measure before the Assembly elections.

 

In a communication by the Office of the District Magistrate on August 20, it was stated, "Given the prevailing law and order situation in District Reasi and to ensure a peaceful, free, and fair environment for the upcoming Legislative Assembly Elections 2024, it has been decided by the District Magistrate & Senior Superintendent of Police, Reasi, in a meeting held on August 20, 2024, that all valid licenced weapon holders shall deposit their weapons in the nearest police station."

 

The order was signed by Kul Bhushan Khajuria, Additional District Magistrate, Reasi.

 

All SHOs and personnel in charge of police posts were asked to help arrange for weapons deposits in police stations under proper receipt.

 

However, security guards working in banks, ATMs, and railway companies in Reasi district  are exempt from this order.

 

The first phase of the nomination for the assembly election will be held on September 18: With the issuing of the notification by the Election Commission on Tuesday, 24 constituencies of the State Assembly will go to the polls in this phase.

 

They are Pampore, Tral, Pulwama, Rajpora, Zainapora, Shopian, D H Pora, Kulgam, Devsar, Dooru, Kokernag (ST), Anantnag West, Anantnag, SrigufwaraBijbehara, ShangusAnantnag East, Pahalgam, Inderwal, Kishtwar.

 

The last date for filing nominations for the first phase is August 27 and scrutiny will be done on August 28.

 

The last date for withdrawal of candidature is August 30. A total of 90 assembly constituencies will vote in Jammu and Kashmir and counting will be done on October 4.

 

The last Assembly election in the region was held in 2014.
