An Israeli air strike on a school in the Gaza Strip has reportedly killed around 16 people and left many injured, Palestinian officials have claimed.
Thousands displaced at the Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza had been sheltering in the school, the health military run by Hamas said.
Confirming the strike, the Israeli Defence Force said it had struck “terrorists operating in structures located in the area of Al-Jaouni School,” BBC reported.
Videos surfacing on social media of the smoke-filled and debris-littered Nuseirat school area showed with desperate adults carrying injured, bleeding children to hospitals.
Around 7,000 people were using the building as a shelter, BBC said.
Other agencies quoted a woman as saying that some children reading the Koran were killed in the strike.
BBC quoting sources also said one room used by Hamas police had been targeted by the IDF.
