A solemn wreath-laying ceremony was held on Wednesday at the Indian Air Force (IAF) station to pay tribute to Lance Naik Subhash Chander, a brave soldier who lost his life in a fierce gunfight with terrorists along the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district.
The ceremony was attended by senior officials from the Army, civil administration, and police force.
Lance Naik Subhash Chander made the ultimate sacrifice during a gunfight in the Battal area of Krishna Ghati sector on Tuesday, thwarting an infiltration attempt by a group of terrorists from across the border.
The ceremony was led by Lieutenant General Navin Sachdeva, General Officer Commanding the Jammu-based White Knight Corps, and was also attended by IAF officers, Anand Jain, Additional Director General of Police of Jammu zone, Ramesh Kumar, Divisional Commissioner, Jammu, and other senior officials.
The officials laid wreaths and saluted the soldier, paying their respects to his bravery and sacrifice. The mortal remains of Lance Naik Subhash Chander were later sent to his hometown in Uttar Pradesh. The ceremony comes amid a recent surge in terrorist activities in Jammu, raising concerns about the revival of militancy in the region.
