Mumbai Police filed an FIR against Sajjan Jindal, the steel baron and managing director of JSW Group, on December 13. This action followed a complaint from a 30-year-old woman who accused him of rape. The FIR was lodged at a police station in the Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC) in compliance with the Bombay High Court's directive, as reported by Business Today.
Jindal is facing charges under IPC 376 (rape), IPC 503 (criminal intimidation), and IPC 354 (assault or criminal force on a woman with intent to outrage her modesty), according to Mumbai Police.
The alleged incident occurred in Jindal's Mumbai office in January 2022, where the complainant claimed she was summoned by Jindal to his BKC office around 7 pm. The woman asserted in her complaint that she was sexually assaulted in the penthouse of the building and further claimed that Jindal promised to marry her.
The FIR indicated that Jindal cautioned her against raising an alarm due to their location within his office building.
The woman also accused Jindal of maintaining an overly friendly and romantically expressive correspondence with her through text messages, despite his marital status.
The complainant disclosed that her initial FIR, filed in February of the same year, was allegedly disregarded by BKC police. She additionally accused individuals associated with Jindal of pressuring her to retract her complaint.
Subsequently, she sought relief from the Bombay High Court, which prompted Mumbai Police to register the FIR against Jindal. In an interview with CNBC-TV18, the complainant stated, \"I approached the police on 16 February 2023. They barely scribbled down a rough statement. They didn't even give me a copy of that statement. No FIR was filed. Finally, on 5 December 2023, I filed a writ petition against the police in Bombay High Court.\"
The woman recounted that she initially encountered Jindal with her brother in the VIP box of a stadium in Dubai during an IPL match on October 8, 2021. Allegedly, they exchanged contact information, subsequently meeting in Mumbai. Jindal expressed interest in purchasing property from her brother, who worked as a real estate consultant in Dubai.
Reports indicate that Jindal has not been summoned for questioning by the police at this time.
