Notable Maoist leader Shankar Rao killed in an encounter.

Shankar Rao, who had a bounty of Rs 25 lakh on his head, was among the 29 Maoists who were killed on Tuesday during an encounter in Chhattisgarh’s Kanker district.

Several weapons, including Ak-47 and INSAS rifles, were recovered.

The combat took place in forests near the village of Binagunda after a joint team of District Reserve Guard and Border Security Force were attacked. The encounter led to the injury of three security personnel. Out of which, two were from BSF, who are stable now.

The third person was from the DRG, who is in critical care.

Sources claimed that the combat began at around 2 PM, when a joint DRG-BSF team was conducting an anti-Maoist operation. BSF had been deployed in the area to carry out wuch operations.

Last month, too, a similar encounter had taken place in the district, in which a Maoist and a cop were killed. Gun and explosives and other stuff were recovered.

In 2023 November during the state polls, a gunfight took place between security forces and Maoist rebels in the same district.
