The Madhya Pradesh government announced on Friday a reward of Rs 1 crore for hockey player Vivek Sagar Prasad, a member of the Indian men's team that secured a bronze medal at the Paris Olympics.
India achieved its second consecutive bronze medal in hockey by defeating Spain 2-1 on Thursday, marking the first time in 52 years the team has achieved this feat.
Chief Minister Mohan Yadav congratulated Prasad, who hails from Madhya Pradesh, during a telephone conversation. "It was an excellent performance. The entire nation is proud of you. Congratulations to you and the entire team on this success. The Madhya Pradesh government will transfer Rs 1 crore to your account as a reward," Yadav said.
Prasad, originally from Itarsi in Narmadapuram district, is also noted for his role in the Indian hockey team that won bronze at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. In addition to his sporting achievements, he serves as a deputy superintendent of police (DSP).
