In a startling development, human bones linked to the infamous Sheena Bora murder case have been located and presented in court after being reported missing from the Central Bureau of Investigation's (CBI) storeroom in Mumbai.

 

This revelation was made by the CBI on July 11, during the ongoing trial, marking a significant turn in the high-profile case.

 

The case, which dates back to 2012, has seen numerous twists and turns.

 

Sheena Bora, daughter of Indrani Mukerjea, was allegedly murdered by her mother with the assistance of her ex-husband Sanjeev Khanna and driver Shyamwar Rai.

 

The body was purportedly disposed of in Pen village and subsequently incinerated.

 

The case only came to light in 2015 following Rai’s arrest, leading to his role as an approver.

 

During the trial, forensic expert Dr. Zeba Khan was summoned for questioning when Special CBI Judge SP Naik Nimbalkar highlighted an email and a hard copy received from an individual claiming to be Dr. Khan's brother.

 

The complaint accused Dr. Khan of collusion with the accused, alleging that she had amassed considerable wealth and properties abroad, potentially explaining the initial disappearance of the skeletal remains.

 

Judge Nimbalkar deemed the allegations against Dr. Khan serious enough to warrant an investigation. Defense attorneys Ranjeet Sangle, Manjula Rao, and Shreyansh Mithare, representing Indrani Mukerjea, Peter Mukerjea, and Sanjeev Khanna respectively, supported the call for a thorough probe.

 

Public Prosecutor CJ Nandode had previously reported the bones as untraceable.

 

However, he later informed the court that the skeletal remains had been found in the CBI storeroom. 

 

Despite this, Nandode stated that the CBI no longer intended to rely on the bones as evidence, urging that Dr. Khan’s cross-examination proceed without delay.

 

The defense, insisting on the importance of presenting the bones in court, was overruled by Judge Nimbalkar, who deemed it unnecessary since the CBI had opted not to use them as evidence.

 

Nonetheless, the defense reiterated the need for an investigation into the allegations against Dr. Khan, highlighting their potential implications for the accused.

 

The cross-examination of Dr. Khan concluded by the end of the day. Judge Nimbalkar announced that a formal decision regarding the investigation into the allegations against Dr. Khan would be issued on Thursday.
