Despite Telangana government’s repeated attempts to conduct raids at eateries to check whether or not food safety norms are being maintained in the restaurants, shocking cases of unhygienic food service surface frequently.
Hyderabad is known for its biryani and such cases mar the glory associated with the mughlai dish.
A social media user on August 2 took to X to raise concerns after a cockroach was found in the biryani order.
His post reads: “Despite multiple inspections, hygiene standards at local eateries remain a concern. Cockroaches were observed at Meridian Restaurant.”

Such cases raise concerns regarding food hygiene at a famous restaurant in Hyderabad as a cockroach was spotted in chicken biryani.
The user also posted a picture and a video of the contaminated food, highlighting the ongoing issues with hygiene standards at the Hyderabad restaurant.
The post garnered attention, with the user tagging @cfs_telangana, @AFCGHMC, and @fssaiindia to call for immediate intervention.
As a result, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) responded by assuring that the concerned food safety team had been informed to inspect the restaurant.
The netizens called the restaurant a “habitual offender” as another user on X recalled a similar experience on September 23, describing a disturbing discovery of cockroaches and flies in their biryani.
Although the government department concerned is working with all its might so that eateries do not flout food safety norms, recent updates indicate that food hygiene remains a matter of concern at Hyderabad eateries.
