BJP Media In-Charge Kashmir Advocate Sajid Yousuf Shah has filed a complaint with the Election Commission of India (ECI) against former Chief Minister and National Conference President Dr Farooq Abdullah.
The complaint states that Dr Farooq Abdullah made "provocative statements" during a rally at Government Degree College in Mendhar on May 19, 2024. The media also covered and conveyed these remarks widely.
Dr Abdullah made two offensive comments during his address. First, he claimed that "peace in the region cannot be achieved without discussions with Pakistan, citing the recent assassination of a Sarpanch in Heerpora, Shopian.
Farooq had stated after former Sarpanch Aijaz Ahmad Sheikh of Shopian was killed by the terrorists inside his home, he said, “that the incident was sad, and no one deserved to be killed, irrespective of the ideology one supports or advocates.”
The complaint further stated that such rhetoric, particularly during election campaigns, indicates that foreign interference in Indian elections is legitimate, which is unacceptable in any democracy."
Furthermore, pushing for an international probe into the death shows a disdain for India's constitutional and legal systems.
It suggests distrust in Indian institutions and perpetuates a narrative that threatens the country's sovereignty and integrity.
Such measures violate the values of Indian democracy, which seek to preserve national sovereignty and geographical integrity.
As a result, I ask you to take necessary legal action against Dr. Farooq Abdullah and the J&K National Conference to protect the integrity of our democratic process," the complaint states.
In another complaint, social activist Sheeraz Zaman of Kulgam filed a complaint with the ECI against Dr Farooq Abdullah for making "anti-national remarks" in Mendhar, Poonch.
