\The Uttarakhand High Court has stayed the Revenue Department's notification regarding the construction of a 'Sainya Dham' in Dehradun.
The stay was issued by Justice Manoj Kumar Tiwari after hearing a petition that claimed the Sainya Dham, a memorial for fallen soldiers, was being built on private land without the necessary permissions from the landowners or any compensation to them.
The petition, filed by Dehradun resident Seema Kanojia, alleged that the Sainik Welfare and Rehabilitation Board was constructing the memorial in Guniyal village on the Mussoorie road without securing permission from the landowners or providing them with compensation.
Justice Tiwari stayed the notification issued on 21 August 2023 and requested the government to file a reply. The court has scheduled the next hearing for 18 June.
The foundation stone for the Sainya Dham was laid by former Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat on 23 January 2021.
