The Jharkhand High Court has questioned the delay in speedy trial in cases filed against MPs and MLAs. A hearing was held in the Jharkhand High Court on a suo motu petition related to the speedy execution of the cases in the special court of MP/MLA in the state on Friday.
After hearing the sides, the division bench of Acting Chief Justice S Chandrashekhar and Justice Navneet Kumar asked the CBI what is the status of the case registered against the MPs-MLAs. Why is there a delay in the cases where trials are going on in the lower courts?
The division bench directed the CBI to file a point-wise status report of the case. CBI was also asked to tell in how many cases against MPs-MLAs the trial has been completed and in how many cases the trial has not taken place.
The court asked why the testimony of witnesses was not being ensured during the trial. The court has been asked to file a status report in the next hearing. The court has fixed April 16 as the next hearing date.
The Supreme Court has directed all the High Courts regarding the speedy execution of criminal cases registered against MP/MLA. The Jharkhand High Court, taking suo motu cognisance of the ongoing cases against MPs and MLAs in the state, is hearing the case.
