The circle rate of land in Ayodhya’s Sadar tehsil is set to rise by up to 200% from next month, marking the first hike in seven years, officials announced Friday.
Following the Ram Temple consecration ceremony earlier this year, land prices in Ayodhya have surged rapidly, attracting interest from investors, real estate companies, and major hotel chains.
Ayodhya Divisional Commissioner Gaurav Dayal confirmed that a notice regarding the circle rate increase has been published. The exact rates will be disclosed in the first week of September.
A notice at the District Collectorate stated that the new circle rates will be released after September 4, following the completion of necessary procedures.
The revision has been carried out under Rule 4 of the Uttar Pradesh Stamp (Valuation of Property) Rules, 1997, with surveys conducted by the SDM, Tehsildar, and Deputy Registrar.
This rate adjustment comes as a response to the significant rise in property prices, driven by extensive construction activity in the region since the temple’s consecration. The rates were last revised in 2017.
The new rate list, which will clarify the extent of the hike for potential buyers, will be publicly available on the first Wednesday of September, according to officials.
Additional Inspector General Stamp of Ayodhya, Yogendra Singh, noted that land near the Ram Temple and along the highway has been sold for prices between 41% and 1,235% above the current circle rate in the last three years.
He estimated that the circle rates in key areas will increase by up to 200%.
Meanwhile, Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav, during a visit to Kannauj on Friday, criticised the hike, claiming it was designed to benefit BJP supporters.
He alleged that while some are now selling land at higher rates, compensation for locals was not adjusted when the rates were previously low.
