The Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport in Mumbai – one of the busiest in the world – unveiled a digitalized Airport Operations Control Centre (AOCC) after undergoing a nine-month infrastructure upgrade. The centre is designed to improve the airport’s efficiency via enhanced visuals, real-time data, and advanced communication systems that improve coordination and management of routine operations as well as emergencies.
What stands out in the airport revamp, however, is the introduction of aviio – a pioneering digital platform that does away with the need to be physically present for operators to make decisions. The technology is slated to help the centre at the Mumbai airport evolve into a data-driven platform, ensuring real-time situational awareness and quick decision-making capabilities for better planning, utilisation, and optimisation.
Speaking on the occasion, Jeet Adani, Director, Adani Airport Holdings Limited (AAHL), said, “In today’s fast-evolving air travel landscape, maintaining leadership in technology and setting new benchmarks in innovation and operational excellence is crucial for airports. At CSMIA, our commitment to innovation and delivering a seamless passenger experience has been exemplified by the launch of the new gen AOCC powered by aviio.”
The upgrades at the airport include three videowalls spanning 37 metres that provide real-time information from multiple sources, making monitoring much more efficient by predicting critical emergencies for swift action and offering a bird’s-eye-view of airport operations. There’s also an Aerodrome Emergency Control Centre (AECC) inside the AOCC, and remote annotation capabilities.
Other changes at the airport include ergonomic seating with IoT-enabled lighting systems for an adaptive working environment, revamped conference rooms, breakout areas, pantry, and bunker beds to improve working conditions for the staff.
