Holly Bramley's remains were found in the Witham River at Bassingham, Lincolnshire, eight days after she went missing. She was 26 years old (image for representation).

When 26-year-old Holly Bramley went missing no one had any idea of the horrific crime her husband had committed.

Nicholas Metson, 28, had stabbed Bramley repeatedly and then chopped up her body into 224 pieces before dumping the remains in plastic bags in the river.

Though he confessed to the murder Metson did not give any reason for committing the crime.

He is scheduled to be sentenced on Monday (April 8).

Bramley's remains were recovered from Witham River at Bassingham, Lincolnshire, eight days after she went missing. She was 26 years old.

Lincolnshire Police said Metson had previously denied killing his wife.

Metson’s friend, Joshua Hancock, also 28, had helped dispose of the body parts, police said.

According to BBC, the Lincoln Crown Court was told at the hearing on Friday how Metson had paid Hancock to dispose of the remains which he kept hidden for nearly a week.

Convicted earlier in 2013, 2016 and 2017 for offences against former partners, Metson was about to separate from Bramley when he stabbed her at their apartment in Lincoln.

Their marriage had broken down irretrievably, the court was told by Bramley’s mother and sister in their victim impact statements.

Called an “evil monster,” Metson was accused of subjecting his wife to "coercive control and manipulation".

A UK newspaper quoted sources to say Metson used to "punish" his wife by killing their pets, including a puppy and hamsters.

The prosecutor told the court that a Lincolnshire Police team had first received a call on March 24, 2023, from a person concerned about her safety. When the police team visited her house, they were received by Metson, who said he had been assaulted by her and that she had left home on March 19 with a mental health support group.

In their next visit on March 25, police officers noticed the house smelling of bleach and ammonia. There were large stains on the bedroom floor and bloodstained sheets in a bathtub.

Metson was arrested for murder.

Divers recovered Bramley’s body parts after a passer-by noticed bags floating in the river, one of them apparently with a severed hand.

Bramley was last seen on March 17, 2023, while she was returning to her residence.

Metson had also looked up information on the Internet on “benefits… I get if my wife has died” and “Can someone haunt me after they die?”
