The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) headquarters in Delhi witnessed jubilant celebrations on Thursday as counting trends indicated the party’s return to power in the national capital after more than 26 years.
Supporters thronged the venue, dancing to the beats of traditional ‘dhols’ and waving the party’s distinctive saffron flags.
The atmosphere was charged with energy as party members and enthusiasts smeared saffron-coloured powder on each other and held up cutouts of the BJP’s iconic lotus symbol.
According to the latest figures released by the Election Commission, the BJP was leading in 48 out of Delhi’s 70 assembly seats, while the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) was ahead in 22.
Buoyed by the early trends, BJP Delhi president Virendra Sachdeva exuded confidence about forming the next government.

Speaking to mediapersons after offering prayers at the Hanuman temple in Connaught Place, he said, “The results so far are in line with our expectations but we will wait for the final outcome.”
He added that the decision regarding the next Chief Minister would be taken by the central leadership.
Ramesh Bidhuri, BJP’s candidate from Kalkaji, who was leading against AAP’s Atishi, echoed similar optimism.
“The people will give the BJP a decisive mandate. Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, Delhi will progress alongside the rest of the country. I can confidently say that AAP will be eliminated from the national capital,” Bidhuri remarked.
The BJP’s strong performance has surprised political analysts who had predicted a closer contest. The party’s renewed focus on development, governance, and its central leadership’s campaign strategies are being credited for the turnaround.
With the final results awaited, BJP supporters remained upbeat, confident of a historic victory that could reshape the political landscape of Delhi.
