Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan announced on Thursday that his ministry will establish a 'Matri Van' (Mother’s Forest) on approximately one acre of land to support environmental conservation.
This effort is part of the global 'Plant4Mother' campaign, which was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on World Environment Day.
Chouhan planted saplings at the Pusa campus in New Delhi. According to an official statement, around 800 institutions under the agriculture ministry have collectively planted between 3,000 and 4,000 saplings nationwide.
The 'Plant4Mother' campaign aims to plant 800 million saplings across India by September 2024 and 1.4 billion by March 2025.
Minister of State for Agriculture Ramnath Thakur and ICAR Director General Himanshu Pathak were also present at the event.
The ministry’s commitment to tree planting reflects a broader movement to address climate change and enhance environmental sustainability.
