The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has established internal working groups to explore and develop regulations for electric air taxis, also known as electric Vertical Take Off and Landing (eVTOL) aircraft.
The move, announced on Monday, marks a significant effort to align India’s aviation standards with emerging global technologies.
Minister of State for Civil Aviation Murlidhar Mohol revealed in a written reply to the Rajya Sabha that these working groups will focus on various aspects of eVTOL operations. The groups aim to assess and create regulations tailored to India's unique needs, drawing on existing regulations from other countries and insights from industry experts and academic communities.
This initiative aligns with the International Civil Aviation Organisation’s (ICAO) recent formation of the Advanced Air Mobility Study Group.
The ICAO's group is tasked with studying the rapid advancements in eVTOL technology and its potential effects on the global aviation ecosystem.
