Organising large-scale shopping festivals on the lines of those hosted in Dubai and China may attract trade and tourism, especially during the approaching festive season, the Chamber of Trade and Industry (CTI) has suggested to the Delhi government.
In a meeting with Kapil Mishra, Tourism and Culture Minister, at the Delhi Secretariat, CTI’s representatives said the success of the recently-held Teej festival was proof that Delhi could host similar events around Diwali and other major festivals successfully.

The Chamber also proposed that fairs focus on automobiles, footwear, furniture, home furnishings and food.
CTI Chairman, Brijesh Goyal, said these festivals would not only promote local trade but also create employment by offering opportunities to small-scale sellers and entrepreneurs who do not have shops or cannot afford high-rent showrooms, thereby generating revenue for the government.
They could be provided with stalls at subsidised rates to showcase and sell their products, and the festivals could be held under the banner of popular markets such as Chandni Chowk.
Mishra welcomed the idea and asked CTI to submit a detailed proposal and roadmap outlining festivals, their types, and what all they could feature.
The minister also distributed certificates to social media influencers who promoted the Teej festival.
