Singapore has emerged as one of the pivotal partners in the transformation of Bengaluru into a leading global tech hub over the past 30 years, a senior Karnataka government official said.
Ekroop Caur, Secretary to the Government of Karnataka, Department of Electronics, Information Technology, Biotechnology, and Science & Technology, emphasised Singapore's significant involvement in the city’s development.
"We have a very deep association with Singapore right from the beginning of the tech revolution in Bengaluru, some 30 years ago," Caur said at a roadshow in Singapore ahead of the Bengaluru Tech Summit 2024.
One of the state’s largest tech infrastructure partnerships is with Singapore's Capitaland under a public-private partnership.
This collaboration remains a cornerstone of Bengaluru's growth as a tech powerhouse, Caur highlighted.
"We are natural allies, and we can accelerate a lot of business growth in Bengaluru via Singapore," she added, as efforts are underway to secure one of the largest delegations from Singapore for the upcoming summit.
Caur noted that Singapore’s standing as a hub for global companies makes it an ideal partner for Bengaluru to connect with other corporations worldwide.
The mobility of Indian talent on the global stage and the trend of Indian-origin startups returning to scale their businesses in Bengaluru were also highlighted.
"We have this tag line — 'skill locally, work globally' — and we have the appetite to serve the global requirements," said Caur, underscoring India’s potential to supply skilled talent to meet international demands.
The secretary also addressed business executives on Bengaluru’s tech progress and the city’s preparedness for the upcoming Bengaluru Tech Summit. The summit, scheduled for November, will focus on attracting global investments and exploring future opportunities for technology and innovation. Bengaluru is now recognised as one of the most advanced technology hubs in the world, Caur remarked.
Jagdish Patankar, Executive Chairman of MM Activ, a sci-tech communication company, further elaborated on Singapore's active participation in the summit.
"Singapore is our global innovation alliance partner, and as a result, companies based in the city state do keep participating in the Bengaluru summit," Patankar noted.
His company, in collaboration with Enterprise Singapore and other agencies, is organising a government-led delegation to the 27th edition of the Bengaluru Tech Summit, set to take place from November 19 to 21.
The summit is expected to draw participation from over 5,000 companies.
