Jharkhand Govt offers free pulses and salt, approves two-year child care leave for employees

In a significant move, the Jharkhand government has announced the provision of one kilogram of pulses and refined iodized salt to consumers free of charge, along with the approval of two-year child care leave for women officers and single male government employees. This decision was made during a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Champai Soren.

Under the new initiative, families covered under both central and state food security schemes will benefit from this distribution, which replaces the previous system where consumers had to pay Re 1 per kilogram for gram pulses and refined iodized salt. The pulse distribution scheme has been renamed as the Mukhya Mantri Dal Vitran Yojana, according to cabinet secretary Vandana Dadel.

Furthermore, the cabinet has approved a hike in the commission of fair price dealers from Rs 100 to Rs 150 per quintal, addressing the demands of over 25,000 fair price dealers in the state. Additionally, 40 agendas were cleared during the meeting, including the approval of the Jharkhand Food and Feed Processing Industrial Policy 2024.

The government has also greenlit the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with e-Governments Foundation, Bengaluru, to establish 10-bed ICU wards and Tele-ICU enabled critical care units in state health centers and hospitals. Moreover, 44 residential schools under the welfare department will be handed over to NGOs for operation.

In a move to boost local handicrafts, the cabinet approved the establishment of Unity Mall in Ranchi's core capital area. Funded by the Centre and provided free land by the state, the mall aims to showcase handicrafts from different districts, thereby promoting local artisans and their craftsmanship.
