With e-commerce platforms like Zepto opening up a plethora of gig jobs for India’s youth, these are quickly becoming the go-to source of employment for the young

In a bid to open a new window of opportunities for India’s youth, women, and first-time job seekers, the Ministry of Labour and Employment has signed an initial pact with e-commerce platform, Zepto.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed in the presence of Union Minister for Labour and Employment, Mansukh Mandaviya, said a statement by the ministry on Wednesday, adding that under the pact, Zepto will provide 10,000 job postings that would be posted on the National Career Service (NCS) portal.

"The National Career Service (NCS) platform has emerged as a unique bridge between employers and job-seekers. With over 52 lakh registered employers and nearly 7.5 crore vacancies mobilised since inception, NCS has positioned itself as a one-stop solution for all employment-related services," Mandaviya said.

Mandaviya said the collaboration with Zepto will create a predictable and structured pipeline of urban employment opportunities for the youngsters while allowing Zepto to connect with a suitable talent pool of human resources.

Over the past year, the ministry has signed MoUs with several key organisations including Amazon, Swiggy, Rapido and Quikr Jobs, which have already mobilised nearly five lakh vacancies on the NCS portal.

Kaivalya Vohra, co-founder, Zepto, said the collaboration will aim at providing “thousands of gig and full-time opportunities, helping to empower India’s youth and contribute to the nation’s economic growth."

Underscoring the ministry’s efforts to leverage NCS to provide job-matching, career counselling and skilling facilities, Vandana Gurnani, Secretary at the Ministry of Labour and Employment, said the MoU would give further impetus to enhancing formalisation and social security coverage.

“This partnership will pave the way for generating secure, long-term, and quality employment,” she added.
