In a noteworthy progress towards rural development, the Ministry of Panchayati Raj released its year-end review for 2023.
The government’s resolute commitment since 2014, shines through as it intensifies efforts to empower Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs). The allocation of fiscal resources has witnessed a quantum leap, aiming to fulfill the true spirit of local governance.
The Ministry of panchayati raj took several initiatives for strengthening and empowering Panchayati Raj Institutions. By alleviating the capacity of representatives of PRI’s to fulfill the roles and responsibilities, as well as improving the efficiency, transparency of functioning and accountability of PRI’s to contribute towards inclusive development, economic growth and achieving sustainable development goals (SDG’s).
The ministry highlighted the activities and progress made during the year 2023 with SMAVITMA (Survey of villages and mapping with improvised technology in village areas) scheme setting the sail. The scheme which was launched on the Panchayati raj day on April 24th, 2020,with a commitment to enable economic progress of rural India by providing “Record of Right '' to every household owner, has seen a remarkable leap.
Under the banner, the use of drone technology extended its reach to almost 2.89 lakh villages, marking a technological feat. Whereas, there was an issuance of property cards to over 1.63 crore households. Moreover, the ministry applauded the tangible step towards property rights and economic inclusion adorned by PM Narendra Modi by distributing over 35 lakh property cards and highlighting the importance of the scheme in India today conclave 2023.
The ministry emphasized on the resurgence of the Rashtriya Gram Swaraj Abhiyan(RGSA) for the years 2022-26 which stood out in the realm of capacity building and training (CB&T). The training of over 43 lakh participants in 2023 signified the devotion to fortify PRI’s through programmatic and technical support.
The localisation of sustainable development goals (LSDG) unwrapped with a thematic approach, a strategic path towards realizing LSDG’s by 2030. In a notable breakthrough, progress has been made in uploading Gram panchayat development plans(GPDP) on the e-gram swaraj portal, with a spotlight on participatory planning through the people’s plan campaign(PPC) for 2023, as pointed out by the ministry.
The ministry also elucidated upon the institutional framework that witnessed significant developments, with the establishment of the school of excellence of panchayati raj at the national level and the honoring special awards that recognized outstanding contributions in renewable energy adoption and carbon neutrality.
Further, the ministry highlighted the canvas of achievements during the National panchayat awards week, where the president of India acknowledged 42 exemplary panchayats. The GS NIRNAY mobile app was launched, adding a technological dimension to empower rural communities.
Additionally, the National panchayati raj day 2023, became a landmark event marked by the Prime Minister’s address in Rewa, Madhya Pradesh. With the inauguration of eGramSwaraj and GeM portal for public procurement at the panchayat level that set the stage for a more transparent and efficient local governance mode.
As the curtains fall this year, the Ministry’s exhaustive review paints a clear picture of dedication, commitment and efficiency of grassroots empowerment, transparency, and sustainable development, by envisioning a new era for the Panchayati Raj in India.
