In a positive session for the Indian stock market, both the Sensex and Nifty indices ended the day in green territory.

In a positive session for the Indian stock market, both the Sensex and Nifty indices ended the day in green territory.

 

The Sensex closed above the 80,000-mark, finishing at 80,049.67 points, up by 0.08%. Similarly, the Nifty closed at 24,302.15 points, marking an increase of 0.06%.

 

Among broad market indices, all ended in green except for India VIX and Smallcap 50, which closed in red.

 

In corporate news, the Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) announced to the NSE that it has acquired a 2.68% stake in IDFC First Bank through a private placement, thereby increasing its stake in the private bank. LIC's stock closed at ₹1,010.34, up by 2.24%.

 

Top gainers of the day included Tata Motors, HCL Tech, ICICI Bank, Sun Pharma and TCS. On the flip side, the day's laggards were HDFC Bank, Bajaj Finance, Adani Entertainment, Wipro, and Tech Mahindra.

 

Sectoral indices showed a mixed performance. Financial services, FMCG, media, and metal ended the day in red. 

 

Conversely, the pharma sector gained 1.39%, healthcare increased by 1.28%, and mid-small healthcare rose by 1.25%, ending the day in green.
