PM Modi advocates establishment of fodder banks to boost livestock sector

In a recent revelation from Union Minister Parshottam Rupala, it has been highlighted that Prime Minister Modi has placed significant emphasis on the establishment of fodder banks across the nation. This initiative aims to bolster the food security of the country's livestock population, a crucial aspect of the agricultural sector.

 

During a fodder symposium held at Vigyan Bhavan, Rupala, who oversees the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying, commended Prime Minister Modi for his  dedication to the advancement of the livestock sector. He revealed that in a preceding cabinet meeting, Modi stressed the need to set up at least one fodder bank in each of the four cardinal directions of the country, while also advocating for the continuation of existing policies in this domain.

 

Rupala further elaborated that PM Modi stressed on the importance of developing these fodder banks with a scientific approach, coupled with robust logistic facilities to ensure their efficacy.

Speaking on the topic of fodder, Minister Rupala expressed concern over the lack of serious discourse and identified gaps in existing policies.

 

He stressed the necessity of prioritizing the food security of livestock akin to that of human beings. With the livestock sector poised to emerge as a pivotal industry in the forthcoming years, Rupala highlighted the urgency to explore diverse feeds and fodders for cattle, calves, and other livestock animals.

 

He advocated for the integration of global best practices and emphasized the importance of private sector participation in this endeavor.

 

The symposium also witnessed the presence of Animal Husbandry and Dairying Secretary Alka Upadhyaya, along with several other senior officials, indicating the government's concerted efforts to address the challenges and opportunities within the livestock sector.
