Prominent figures from India's information technology and digital sectors were celebrated at an event hosted by Hardeep Singh Puri, Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas, and Rajeev Chandrasekhar, Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology.
The event, titled 'Vishesh Sampark', took place at Puri's residence and welcomed leading IT professionals, innovators, startup leaders, and intellectuals.
Rajeev Chandrasekhar, on platform X, shared a speech by Zomato's CEO, Deepinder Goyal, who expressed gratitude for the government and its initiatives, stating, "This government and its initiatives empowered someone like me, hailing from a small town, to establish Zomato, which now provides employment to lakhs of people"
Among other notable attendees were Urban Company co-founder Abhiraj Singh Bhal, and Varun Alagh, co-founder of Honasa Consumer, the parent company of Mamaearth. The gathering underscored the significant strides made by India's tech and startup ecosystem.
Reflecting on the sector's rapid advancements, Puri said, "Ten years ago, one could not have imagined that young people with no business background could one day be running huge multi-million businesses and providing employment opportunities to lakhs of professionals. Further, digital payments, even in the remotest parts of the country, have become a reality."
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in a post on the platform X on Wednesday, shared his agreement with Puri’s sentiments. "Sunil Ji, I completely agree with you on this. The transformation in India's mobile phone and electronics industry is truly remarkable. It is a testament to India's potential and the proactive steps taken in the last few years to realize it," he wrote.
Modi also praised Nitin Jain, founder of OfBusiness, saying, "India is the place to be! Your decision to return to India has truly paid off, Nitin! Due to the reforms of the last decade, a lot of people have been encouraged to innovate here. I have always invited the world to invest in India!"
Abhiraj Bhal, Founder of Urban Company, highlighted, "The government played a pivotal role in facilitating the creation of a certified skilled workforce, enabling thousands of professionals to gain credible skills for home services. Today, we employ 57,000 individuals across 62 cities. The Start-up India initiative has been invaluable in fostering an environment conducive to brainstorming for hours and cultivating a highly supportive start-up ecosystem."
Agreeing to the founder's words, Prime Minister appluaded the startup initiative, stating how it has created a conducive environment for innovation and growth.
PM Modi also praised Rohan Verma, CEO of MapMyIndia's progress, stating that, "India's recent advancements in the space sector have garnered global recognition. Our government remains committed to transforming the vital space and geospatial sectors, making relentless efforts towards this goal."
