Defence equipment manufacturer SMPP Ltd has secured two orders to the tune of Rs 300 crore from the Indian Army. Disclosing the details of the order on Friday, the company said SMPP Ltd will supply bulletproof jackets and advanced ballistic helmets to the Army under the emergency provision.
SMPP will supply 27,700 bulletproof jackets and 11,700 advanced ballistic helmets to the Army. The bulletproof jackets have advanced features like dynamic load distribution and quick release system, which enhance operational efficiency by offering more soldier comfort while providing protection against the most dangerous armour-piercing bullets. The advanced ballistic helmet is the world’s first helmet that ensures protection from AK-47-fired lethal hard-steel core ammunition, the company stated.
SMPP Director and CEO Ashish Kansal said SMPP has more than 90 per cent market share (as per 1Lattice report) in India’s personal protection market, driven by its focus on R&D. He said the company has filed over 17 patents, out of which 10 have been granted.
An indigenous designer and manufacturer of defence equipment, including ammunition components, SMPP has a manufacturing facility at Palwal in Haryana.
