SpiceJet announced on Tuesday that it will expand its fleet by adding 10 aircraft by November, with the first plane to be inducted on 10 October.
Seven of the new planes will be acquired through leasing agreements, while three previously grounded aircraft will be reintroduced into service, the airline said in a statement.
The Gurugram-based carrier currently has 19 aircraft in operation, while 36 planes remain grounded as of 8 October, according to the aircraft tracking website Planespotter.net.
The fleet expansion follows SpiceJet securing a Rs 3,000 crore capital infusion through a qualified institutional placement (QIP) late last month.
The airline is also set to receive an additional Rs 736 crore from a previous funding round, which will further boost its financial stability and growth plans.
SpiceJet has already signed lease agreements for the seven aircraft, with all expected to be fully operational by 15 November. Two of these planes have already arrived in India and are set for immediate induction.
Additionally, the airline plans to gradually reintroduce its grounded planes, with the first three returning to service by the end of November.
"This fleet expansion is essential as we work to meet the rising demand for air travel while bolstering our operational capacity," said SpiceJet Chairman and Managing Director Ajay Singh.
