India Africa Growth Partnership Could Transform Regions, Says VP Dhankar At CII India Africa Business Conclave.


Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar recently addressed the inaugural session of the 19th CII India Africa Business Conclave in New Delhi. During his speech, Dhankhar emphasised the potential of a resurgent Africa and a rising India to boost South-South cooperation.

 

He highlighted several areas where India and Africa could collaborate, including clean technology, climate-resilient agriculture, maritime security, connectivity, and the blue economy.

 

Dhankhar noted that India is making strides in space sector cooperation with Africa and has seen significant advancements in digitization across various sectors.

 

India’s commitment to the African Union's priorities is evident through its capacity-building efforts, training programs, and educational opportunities. As Africa’s fourth-largest trading partner, India has nurtured a strong relationship with the continent, which is underscored by the inclusion of the African Union in the G20 during India's presidency.

 

The Vice President remarked that the theme of the Conclave, "Creating One Future," aligns with India's G20 motto, "One Earth, One Family, One Future." He described the Conclave as a platform for deliberating on contemporary issues and fostering cooperation for the collective well-being.

 

Zimbabwe’s Vice President, Dr. C.G.D.N. Chiwenga, echoed Dhankhar’s sentiments, stating that a strong vision is crucial for deepening India-Africa relations. He pointed out that Africa offers abundant investment opportunities, and Indian companies could benefit by partnering with African enterprises. Chiwenga emphasised that combining India’s technological expertise with Africa’s mineral resources could lead to mutually beneficial collaborations.

 

Mauritius Vice President Marie Cyril Eddy Boissézon highlighted the close economic and geographical ties between Mauritius and India. He noted that Mauritius is the first African country to adopt India's UPI system and issue RuPay cards, which has facilitated tourism and bilateral cooperation. Boissézon emphasised future collaboration in areas such as sustainability and food safety.

 

Liberian Vice President Jeremiah Kpan Koung expressed Liberia’s openness to investment, particularly in hydro projects and other initiatives. He emphasised the country’s readiness to collaborate with global partners for mutual growth and innovation.

 

Gambian Vice President Muhammad B.S. Jallow expressed enthusiasm for exploring innovative ideas and trade opportunities with India. He highlighted Gambia’s readiness to promote new trade opportunities and create impactful joint ventures.

 

In his speech, Dhankhar acknowledged the historical and ongoing collaboration between India and Africa. He noted India’s investment in 206 infrastructure projects across 43 African countries and highlighted India’s role in providing medical aid during the COVID-19 pandemic, contributing to UN peacekeeping efforts, and enhancing maritime security.

 

Dhankhar also praised Africa’s role in contributing to global biodiversity, citing the recent introduction of cheetahs to India from Africa. He stressed that India’s technological advancements and space program offer significant opportunities for collaboration with Africa.

 

The Vice President concluded by reaffirming India’s commitment to strengthening its partnership with Africa. He emphasised that a rising India and a resurgent Africa have the potential to drive global progress and stability. Dhankhar expressed optimism that the Conclave’s discussions would lead to transformative developments for both regions.
