Wipro GE Healthcare has revealed plans to inject over Rs 8,000 crore into India over the next five years, aiming to ramp up local manufacturing and research and development (R&D) initiatives.

 

The renowned global medical technology and digital solutions provider aims to export its 'Made in India' PET CT Discovery IQ scanner to 15 countries as part of this investment.

 

Moreover, the company is set to produce locally the Revolution Aspire CT, Revolution ACT, and MR breast coils, emphasizing a 'Made in India for the World' approach. This strategic move not only strengthens the company's domestic manufacturing capabilities but also enhances its supply chain resilience to cater to both local and international markets.

Peter J Arduini, President and CEO of GE HealthCare, highlighted India's strategic importance as a high-potential market for the company globally. He reaffirmed their dedication to investing in India's domestic capabilities and positioning the country as a key player in MedTech manufacturing and R&D on a global scale.

 

Chaitanya Sarawate, Managing Director and President & CEO of GE HealthCare South Asia, expressed optimism about India's journey towards self-reliance ('Atmanirbhar') and becoming a vital part of the global supply chain. He reiterated the company's commitment to supporting India's healthcare agenda and vision to emerge as a top global manufacturing hub for medical devices.

 

Currently, Wipro GE Healthcare operates four manufacturing plants in Bengaluru, all designated as export plants. The latest facility, established in March 2022 with an investment of over Rs 100 crore under the Indian government's production-linked investment (PLI) Scheme, underscores the company's dedication to enhancing local manufacturing capabilities.

 

Established in 1990, Wipro GE Healthcare, a joint venture between GE Precision Healthcare LLC, USA, and Wipro Enterprises Ltd, serves markets across India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Maldives, and Bhutan, cementing its position as a key player in the region's healthcare.
