The Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU), affiliated with the Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)], has unveiled its manifesto for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, focusing on labour rights and mobilising workers against the central government.

In a session aimed at informing workers about the electoral process and galvanising opposition to the ruling government, CITU State President Vijendra Mehra inaugurated the convention. The session concluded under the leadership of CITU District President Kuldeep Dogra.

Addressing the gathering, Dogra emphasised the need to remove the Modi government from power, citing continuous attacks on workers' rights during its tenure.

Dogra condemned the government's consolidation of forty-four labour laws into four labour codes, which he labelled as anti-labor and pro-capitalist, benefiting only corporate interests while neglecting workers' welfare.

Highlighting the dire economic situation, Dogra criticised the government for soaring unemployment rates and escalating inflation. He denounced policies such as the Agniveer Yojana, which he claimed hindered opportunities for underprivileged youth to secure government employment.

Moreover, Dogra accused the Modi government of favouring corporate entities at the expense of public resources and exacerbating societal divisions by exploiting religious sentiments.

He criticised the imposition of taxes like GST on the public while granting significant tax waivers to corporate giants, asserting that such actions burden common citizens while enriching the affluent.

CITU has issued a nationwide call to uproot the "anti-worker, anti-people" Modi government, alleging its role in exacerbating social and economic disparities. The organisation asserts that the government's policies have deepened inequality and disenfranchised the working class.

As the Lok Sabha elections draw near, CITU's manifesto and campaign against the central government signal a concerted effort to mobilise workers and advocate for labour rights.

The organisation's call for political change underscores broader discontentment with current governance and highlights the importance of workers' issues in the electoral discourse.
