The Tihar administration has strongly refuted allegations made by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) regarding the medical treatment of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who suffers from diabetes.
According to Tihar authorities, a video conference was arranged between Kejriwal and senior specialists from AIIMS, during which the issue of insulin was neither raised by Kejriwal nor suggested by the doctors.
The AAP had accused the Tihar administration of denying insulin to Kejriwal and alleged a conspiracy to harm him. However, the Tihar administration clarified that appropriate senior specialists from AIIMS provided consultation to Kejriwal through a video conference on Saturday.
The consultation, lasting 40 minutes, addressed Kejriwal's health concerns, and he was assured that there was no serious concern. The doctors advised him to continue with the prescribed medicines, which would be evaluated and reviewed regularly.
The video conference was organized by the Tihar Jail administration at the request of Kejriwal's wife, Sunita Kejriwal. In addition to a senior specialist from AIIMS, medical officers from the Tihar jail were also present during the consultation.
The AIIMS specialist was provided with a complete record of Kejriwal's health, including details of his glucose monitoring sensor data, diet, and medications.
The Tihar administration emphasized that Kejriwal's health had been reviewed twice in April by a medicine specialist, who recommended oral anti-diabetic drugs. The administration categorically stated that Kejriwal was never denied insulin at any point during his treatment.
Kejriwal was arrested on March 21 by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with a money-laundering case linked to the Delhi government's now-scrapped excise policy. Since April 1, he has been lodged in Tihar jail.
The Tihar administration's response aims to dispel any misconceptions regarding Kejriwal's medical treatment and to ensure transparency in the handling of his health issues while in custody.
