The Grand Old Party in Jharkhand seems to be in a great predicament over the selection of candidates for four seats of its quota this election.

After much deliberation, the Congress party has announced three candidates for the State but it is in great difficulty to decide on four others for the past several days.

It is being said that the Congress lacks strong candidates compared to BJP candidates or there are many contenders for one ticket within the party.

Whatever may be the case, Congress seems to be lagging behind in the fight for 2024 in Jharkhand due to the delay in announcing the candidates.

On one hand, BJP candidates have not only started their campaign but have also intensified it, while Congress candidates are missing from the field. No potential candidate from the Congress Party is visible in the campaign to counter the BJP.

The delay in the announcement of candidates in Ranchi, Dhanbad, Godda and Chatra is said to have lowered the morale of the workers.

The problem of plenty is also with the party on all four seats. On the Ranchi seat former Union Minister Subodh Kant Sahay and former MP Ramtal Chaudhary both are lobbying hard to get the party ticket.

Former BJP MP Ramtahal has joined Congress recently. He had also contested the 2019 elections as an independent and came third, Subodh Kant, who was at second position, has not yet given up his claim on the seat.

On the Chatra Lok Sabha seat, the matter is stuck here between Congress and RJD.

Both parties are presenting their claims on this seat. Girinath Singh and Arun Singh are being considered as contenders from RJD, while KN Tripathi is being considered as a contender from Congress’ side.

In Godda, the candidature is swinging between three Congress MLAs. To challenge BJP MP Nishikant Dubey, all three MLAs are making their claims and are lobbying from Ranchi to Delhi, but no picture is clear in front of the public yet.

Congress's Deepika Pandey Singh, Irfan Ansari, his father Furkan Ansari and Pradeep Yadav are making claims to challenge Nishikant Dubey in their way.

The name of MLA Badal Patralekh is also in discussions as a contender. The mutual tussle between the Congress MLAs in Godda has delayed the distribution of tickets.

A similar situation prevails in Dhanbad, where on one hand BJP candidate Dhullu Mahato is intensifying his campaign, while on the other hand Congress is still searching for candidates.

Although former BJP leader Saryu Roy is certainly putting brakes on Dhullu's pace, Congress is in a state of confusion here too.

Congress is not able to decide whether to support Saryu Roy or to bet on any old Congressman.

On one hand, veteran Dadai Dubey is trying his best, on the other hand, Congress MLA Anup Singh is seeking a ticket for his family.

The name of Jharia MLA Purnima Neeraj Singh is also doing the rounds. Due to this state of confusion, Congress is lagging and BJP is moving towards taking the lead.
