India's External Affairs Minister, Dr. S Jaishankar, stood firm against recent criticisms from Western media outlets regarding India's democratic processes.

Addressing a forum for nationalist thinkers in Hyderabad, Jaishankar voiced his concerns over the perceived interference of Western media in Indian elections.

Jaishankar expressed his dismay at the inclination of Western media to view themselves as participants in India's electoral arena. He noted that such a perspective often led to unwarranted criticisms of India's democratic values and practices.

Rather than a lack of understanding, Jaishankar argued that these criticisms stemmed from a belief among Western media outlets that they had a stake in Indian politics.

This attitude, according to Jaishankar, represented an intrusion into India's domestic affairs, one that needed to be addressed promptly. He urged Indians to reject this perception and assert their sovereignty over their electoral processes. Jaishankar emphasised the need to disabuse Western media of the notion that they held any influence over Indian elections.

One instance Jaishankar highlighted was Western media questioning the timing of India's general elections, citing concerns over a prevailing heatwave.

However, Jaishankar swiftly dismissed these criticisms by pointing out India's consistently high voter turnout, even in challenging weather conditions. He underscored India's robust democratic practices, which often surpassed those of Western nations.

In response to such criticisms, Jaishankar called for confidence and resilience among Indians. He urged them to stand firm against external scrutiny and defend India's democratic principles. Jaishankar emphasised the importance of maintaining confidence in India's electoral processes despite external pressures.

The minister's remarks underscored the need for Indians to uphold their sovereignty and reject any attempts by foreign entities to influence their domestic affairs. He reaffirmed India's commitment to its democratic values and urged citizens to remain vigilant against external interference.

Jaishankar's stance resonated with many, highlighting the importance of safeguarding India's democratic processes from external influences. As India continues to assert its position on the global stage, maintaining the integrity of its electoral system remains paramount.
