Election officials in Goa have confiscated liquor, drugs, precious metals, and cash valued at over Rs 17 crore as part of election preparations, according to Goa Chief Electoral Officer Ramesh Verma.
Verma reported a significant increase in seizures compared to the previous Assembly elections, emphasising the need for continued vigilance.
Verma highlighted the proactive efforts of field teams and other departments over the past six months, noting a 35% rise in seizures compared to the 2022 elections. Additionally, he mentioned the provision of transportation facilities for voters and the presence of international guests during the election process.
The introduction of new features in the election commission app aims to address any election-related grievances efficiently, Verma noted.
He underscored the heightened awareness among the public, who promptly report any irregularities they encounter, and highlighted initiatives such as medical camps, green initiatives, and transportation facilities for tree plantation drives.
The Election Commission of India (ECI) released the final voter turnout figures for the first two phases of the Lok Sabha elections, recording over 66% turnout in each phase. The first phase, held on April 19, saw a turnout of 66.14%, while the second phase on April 26 recorded a turnout of 66.71%.
According to the ECI data, male turnout slightly exceeded female turnout in both phases, with the third-gender turnout being notably lower.
With 102 constituencies voting on April 19 and 88 on April 26, the Lok Sabha elections will continue on May 7, May 13, May 20, May 25, and June 1.
The final results are scheduled to be announced on June 4, marking the culmination of the electoral process in Goa and across the country.
