Political dynamics in Manipur are undergoing significant shifts ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, according to credible sources.
It is reported that Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) belonging to the National People's Party (NPP) in Manipur are deliberating over merging with the state's Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Notably, Thongam Shanti Singh, the working president and MLA of NPP, was observed at the BJP Manipur office alongside other BJP MLAs.
Earlier this month, the National People's Party, under the leadership of Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma, declared its support for the Lok Sabha candidate of the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) in Nagaland and the Naga People's Front (NPF) nominee in Manipur.
Sangma informed the media that his party would extend its support to NPF candidate Kachui Timothy Zimik in the Outer Manipur seat.
Furthermore, the NPP pledged support to BJP nominees Kiren Rijiju (Arunachal West) and Tapir Gao (Arunachal East) in Arunachal Pradesh's two Lok Sabha seats.
The NPF fielded Zimik, replacing its incumbent MP Lorho S. Pfoze. Notably, the NPP, NPF, and NDPP are allies of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA).
Sangma pressed that NDA partners are reciprocally supporting each other's candidates across various northeastern states.
Previously, the BJP had announced its backing for NPP candidates in Meghalaya's two parliamentary seats, the NPF nominee in the Outer Manipur Lok Sabha constituency, and the NDPP contender in Nagaland's sole Lok Sabha seat.
