Ten UP leaders inducted into Modi's cabinet, emphasis on OBC and dalit inclusion

Modi 3.0 cabinet inducts 10 UP leaders

In Modi's third government, five OBC leaders, two Dalits, and three from forward castes in UP have been appointed as ministers.

Ten members from Uttar Pradesh were inducted into the Union Council of Ministers of the BJP-led NDA government on Sunday, with a significant focus on maintaining caste balance.

In Prime Minister Narendra Modi's third government, five leaders from backward communities, two Dalits, and three from forward castes in UP have been appointed as ministers.

This cabinet reshuffle follows the NDA's significant losses in Uttar Pradesh during the Lok Sabha elections, where the INDIA bloc, particularly the Samajwadi Party (SP), made substantial gains, crediting their "PDA" strategy—'Pichhra (backward), Dalit, Alpsankhyak (minorities)'—for the victory.

The new government includes five members from the Other Backward Classes (OBC) community, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who belongs to the Teli-Vaishya community.

The other OBC members are Jayant Chaudhary (Jat), Pankaj Chaudhary (Kurmi), Anupriya Patel (Kurmi), and BL Verma (Lodh).

Dalit representation includes Kamlesh Paswan (Pasi) and SP Baghel (Dhangar). The forward castes are represented by Rajnath Singh and Minister of State Kirtivardhan Singh, both from the Kshatriya community, and Jitin Prasada, a Brahmin, who has also been appointed as a Minister of State.

Among the allies, Jayant Chaudhary from the Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) has been given the position of Minister of State with independent charge.

Anupriya Patel, chief of Apna Dal (S) and an NDA ally since 2014, secured a Minister of State position for the third time.

However, allies such as the Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party (SBSP) and the Nirbal Indian Shoshit Hamara Aam Dal (NISHAD) did not secure any ministerial positions due to electoral defeats.

SBSP's Arvind Rajbhar lost to SP candidate Rajiv Rai in Ghosi, and Praveen Nishad of the NISHAD Party lost in Sant Kabir Nagar.

Out of the 80 Lok Sabha seats in UP, the BJP won 33 seats, RLD secured two, and Apna Dal (S) won one. The Samajwadi Party emerged victorious in 37 seats, while Congress claimed six seats.

Dalit leader Chandrashekhar Azad won the Nagina seat, and the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) failed to win any seats.
